Poor CAD work and lack of standards are typical of most legacy drawings. The INDD file would either need to be in the same folder as the images, or in a parent folder to the images folder. Legacy data, being readily available, is typically the first to be used when starting a new design. Place in InDesign one of the images you are going to link (the image should be in the folder where you will store the images for the data merge, but its not. I bring it up because I don't believe relative paths will link up if the INDD and images are in different branches of a directory structure. Just to check, what is the folder structure? I'm assuming something like this. Select the file name, hold down the Shift key while you right click for file and then a context menu appears and from that, you choose Copy as Path. If the problem is on the other side, re-running a variable data job with new data, Excel might be able write the path with a macro/formula that looks up the spreadsheet's location, but I can't help with that. Use this for manipulating images to use as card art, or for digital painting. I copied platform style path from indesign to get the exact link and when I download the CSV its still not finding the images. Well, once you generate the merged InDesign document, the links should be updated to use relative paths for re-opening a merged file.
